FlipFactory V.6 Update Pack 4 Release notes

General Notes:

For FlipFactory 6.0 customers who are creating MPEG-2 material, this update is strongly recommended. MPEG-2 transcoding quality and performance has been significantly improved. This update resolves a prior quality issue with FlipFactory 6.0 MPEG-2 transcoding.

New Features

• H.264: Added support for 480x272 PSP encoding
• MPEG-2: Significant improvements to both transcoding speed and quality
• Omneon: Added the ability to analyze pre-charge information from incoming Omneon files, and (optionally) automatically trim precharge frames during a transcode.
• Avid TransferManager integration: Added support for creating video-only DV files.
• Windows Media: Added support for creation of audio-only VBR and multi-bitrate files.
• FTP Monitoring and Delivery: Support for preserving full directory structure in FTP-to-FTP workflows. For example, a monitor watching “\input” on an FTP site can transcode files found in subdirectories and preserve those subdirectories when delivering to an FTP site. Note: This is only available for workflows that monitor FTP and subsequently deliver the transcoded file to FTP.

MPEG-2 Encoding: Fixed quality issues

• TrafficManager: Resolved occasional issues surrounding recovery from network failures when localizing from DG SpotBox.
• Email Notification: Resolved occasional issues with the email notification where the file would not properly be attached to the email
• SDK integrations and Stores: Added support for the clean-up of files even when the SDK message is badly formed without a proper “store” element
• Pipeline Integration: Several cosmetic issues fixed, also added support for clients that do not have Bonjour installed
• ClipMail Delivery: fixed rare issue when delivering to ClipMail
• Grass Valley: Fixed issue where the header was incorrectly reporting the bitrate for some DV encoding workflows
• QuickTime: Fixed issue reading QuickTime-based MJPEG files. Fixed issue reading FCP 6.01 files where FCP was incorrectly publishing the frame rate as 19.98 instead of 29.97
• Fixed intermittent issue reading MediaStream (MSS) files
• Transport Stream decoder: Extended audio decoding support for reading poorly-formed transport stream files
