After years of taking it on the chin for public relations issues - Avid announced a new fresh approach to the way it does business. Few people were surprised by this announcement. It's a good move for Avid after years of marketing and support missteps. Notably, competing with Apple is not an easy task. To maintain market share and remain profitable in the shadow of the world's best marketing machine has taken it's toll on Avid. Still, there is much of the broadcast and post world that needs Avid to be viable and to continue to develop products for workgroup, enterprise and editorial applications. Despite the marketing hype and narrow focus of some of Apple's users - Apple is not everything to everyone. Our industry is best served by competing profitable companies - not just one category killer that only covers some of the bases.
