Avid Media Composer v3.0, Avid Symphony v3.0 and Avid NewsCutter v7.0 are now shipping

We are pleased to announce that Avid’s new software releases are now shipping, as well as the new Avid® Media Composer®, Avid Symphony™ and Avid NewsCutter® family products with Avid Mojo® DX and Avid Nitris® DX, and updated releases for the Avid Unity™ MediaNetwork, Avid Unity ISIS®, Avid Interplay®, and the new Avid VideoRAID® ST and SR local storage solutions. These new products bring to the Avid family major enhancements in quality, performance and value.

You are receiving this mail since you have been identified as an existing Avid customer of Avid Media Composer, Avid NewsCutter or Avid Symphony Nitris. This letter outlines your options for obtaining the latest software. Please read it carefully, as it contains important information about the release.

How to obtain your software

You can obtain the Avid Media Composer v3.0 or Avid Symphony Nitris v3.0 software in one of three ways:

1. You have a valid Avid Assurance Support contract. The v3.0 software is available to Avid Assurance customers at no additional charge. Software upgrades are a feature of Avid Assurance contracts. The software can be obtained by logging into the Avid Electronic Download Center.
2. You purchased a new copy, or purchased an upgrade to Avid Media Composer v2.8 or Avid Symphony v1.8 after March 17th 2008. The v3.0 software is free of charge and can be obtained by going to http://www.avid.com/protect. You will be asked to enter the location and the date of purchase, as well as the System ID as proof of purchase. Offer ends July 15th 2008.
3. You do not fall into one of the above two categories. You can either purchase an Avid Assurance contract or you can purchase the v3.0 upgrade from Avid’s online webstore (Avid Media Composer Software upgrades only), from your local reseller (all products) or from Avid directly.

Important Notes:

1. Avid Media Composer Adrenaline, Avid Media Composer with Avid Mojo/Mojo SDI customers on the Mac. Avid Media Composer v3.0 on Avid Adrenaline, Avid Mojo and Avid Mojo SDI is not currently qualified with Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard due to an issue between the Apple firewire driver in Apple OS X 10.5 and the Avid Adrenaline and Mojo drivers. This issue is not present with Apple OS X 10.4 Tiger and Avid is currently in the process of qualifying v3.0 on OS X 10.4 so that Avid Adrenaline and Avid Mojo customers can upgrade to v3.0. Customers will be notified when this qualification is complete.
2. Avid NewsCutter customers, and customers using Avid Media Composer or Avid Symphony systems in larger enterprise environments should contact their Avid sales representative to discuss upgrade options. For larger interconnected installations, Avid needs to ensure that upgrading a single seat will not impact the total workflow.
3. 3rd Party Information: Options (1) and (2) above, as well as the avid.com webstore downloadable upgrades do not include third party software, these options only include the Avid editing software upgrade. Third party software can be obtained by purchasing the full packaged upgrade available either on the avid.com webstore or through your Avid reseller.
4. Operating System Information and System Requirements. Please check full system requirements before upgrading which can be found on the system requirements tab of the product in question at http://www.avid.com
5. Avid Symphony Nitris has skipped a version number from 1.8 to 3.0 in order to align the version numbers with Avid Media Composer. Avid Symphony Nitris v3.0 requires Avid Nitris firmware updates that are not yet qualified to run with Avid DS v8.4, so customers running dual boot DS-Symphony systems should not update to v3.0 at this time. Avid will notify customers when this qualification is complete.

Avid will cease shipping Avid Mojo on June 30, 2008. This product is replaced by Avid Mojo SDI which will continue for customers looking for standard definition I/O solutions.
